According to Wikipedia, the phrase "Mind your own business" is a common English saying which is a request that you respect another person’s privacy.  The origin of this phrase came from the bible.  Wikipedia states theologians did reference a bible verse that states exactly what this concept is all about.  It is 1 Thessalonians 4:11-12 (New International Version) reads...

11 and to make it your ambition to lead a quiet life: You should mind your own business and work with your hands, just as we told you, 12 so that your daily life may win the respect of outsiders and so that you will not be dependent on anybody.

The Greek phrase πράσσειν τὰ ἴδια, sums it up in 2 words that translate as "Manage Yourself"

Again I congratulate you… Nice job, now let’s keep moving forward. I want to present to you a tool called The 5 Second Rule by Mel Robbins. This rule has become incredibly popular over the past few years, and for good reason. It's a simple but powerful tool that can help you take action and make better decisions in all areas of your life. So, let's get to it!

What is The 5 Second Rule and where did it come from?

The 5 Second Rule is a technique that was developed by Mel Robbins, a motivational speaker and author. The rule is based on the idea that if you have an impulse to do something, you must act on it within 5 seconds, or your brain will start to talk you out of it. This could be anything from getting out of bed in the morning to making a phone call you've been putting off for weeks.

How does The 5 Second Rule work?

The 5 Second Rule works by interrupting the habit loops that are formed in our brains. When we have an impulse to do something, our brains start to form a habit loop, which consists of a cue, a routine, and a reward. The cue could be anything that triggers the habit, the routine is the behavior that we do automatically, and the reward is the positive feeling we get from completing the routine. By counting down from 5 to 1 when we have an impulse to do something, we interrupt the habit loop and give ourselves a window of opportunity to take action. This window of opportunity allows us to bypass the part of our brain that tries to talk us out of things and take action before we can overthink it. It is a starting ritual! Helping you get started on the changes you want to make.

The Science behind The 5 Second Rule:

The 5 Second Rule is based on the science of metacognition, which is the ability to think about your own thinking. When we use The 5 Second Rule, we're engaging in a form of metacognition by becoming aware of our impulses and taking control of them. This can help us break out of old patterns of behavior and make new, more positive habits.

The benefits of using The 5 Second Rule:

Using The 5 Second Rule can have a number of benefits. It can help you:

Overcome procrastination and take action on your goals

Make better decisions by trusting your instincts
Improve your confidence and self-esteem by taking action
Break out of negative thought patterns and focus on positive outcomes

Examples of how The 5 Second Rule can be applied in different areas of life:

Getting out of bed in the morning

Making a phone call you've been putting off

Starting a new project or business venture

Going to the gym or starting an exercise routine

Speaking up in a meeting or social situation
