Building Trust: The Key to Success in Business and Life, Ep 26
Welcome to the Mind Your Business Mentor Podcast, where we help entrepreneurs build a life and not just a business. I'm Stephanie Arkadie, your host, and mentor. Today's episode is all about the importance of building trust in yourself and the marketplace. Trust is a fundamental aspect of success, and it is essential for both personal and professional growth.
Now Trust can be defined as a firm belief in the reliability, the truth, the ability, or the strength of someone or something. It involves a willingness to rely on the actions and words of someone else, with the expectation that they will act in a predictable and dependable manner.
Brain Tracy said that trust is based on Integrity, the definition of Integrity is the quality of being honest, having strong moral principles, and adhering to a code of ethics. It involves being truthful and sincere in words and actions and consistently upholding principles of fairness, transparency, and responsibility. Integrity also includes being accountable for one's actions and decisions, and doing the right thing even when you may not get credit for it or no one is watching.
Honesty, strong moral principles, and a code of ethics are all things that you identify for yourself as you complete the MYB Life Assessment, review your scores and decide on the values and principles that are important to you, discover what you may need to change or start, develop the plan for your new life, deliver on the new habits and behaviors inline with your values, and dominate how you show up!
Trust is essential in all relationships, whether personal or professional, and is the foundation of loyalty, respect, and mutual understanding. It takes time to build trust, but it can be quickly destroyed if promises are not kept, commitments are not honored, or behavior is inconsistent with expectations.
In true MYB Lifestyle fashion, the first relationship where trust should exist is within the relationship you have with yourself. But I have a few questions for you, When you make a commitment to yourself, do you trust yourself to keep it? When you set out to do something, do you trust your ability? When you encounter a tough decision, do you trust your strength to make the right decision? If you answered no to any of these questions then you are weakening your own personal foundation of loyalty, respect, and understanding. Do you see how this can be a problem when it comes to self-love, acceptance, getting things done, and facing or overcoming challenges? If you don’t trust yourself, it can lead to many other disempowering traits that will definitely slow your growth and hinder your business. You must trust or develop trust in yourself.
So, what do we do to combat this issue of distrust and change our belief in ourselves? For me, I had to remember and forget about my past at the same time. Remember when I said that the past has a purpose and should also stay in its place? What I mean, is the positive history that you have about challenges you’ve overcome, goals you’ve accomplished and experiences where there was a strong sense of self-reliance, should be referenced..remembered. The negative history that you have about mistakes you’ve made, promises you’ve broken, and lies you’ve told yourself should be dismissed…forgotten. We only want to focus on who we are developing into, where we are going, and not who we used to be.
With that being said, starting today, even without a lot of evidence or a track record. We are going to TRUST ourselves in this moment; point-blank period. We are going to walk in that trust and behave in line with that trust, over and over and over again until it is true. Trust is built over time through the ability to fulfill your promises and commitments consistently.
Building trust in ourselves will lead to creating trust in our business and will be authentic. The type of trust that is built through communication, transparency, consistency, and integrity. Trust will have an impact on all your relationships, reputation, and overall success.
I’m sure you’ve heard the easiest way to make a sale is to get your potential customer to KNOW, LIKE & TRUST you. You get to know someone through communication. Transparency is clear communication where there are no surprises or hidden agendas. You must continue to communicate transparently on a consistent basis which embodies integrity.
